One of the most influential people in my life, was my Granddad. He was many things, a scholar who taught himself English at 75, a bit of a Dandy, wearing yellow kid gloves when he courted my grandmother and a great businessman as well. At it’s peak his chain of shoe shops counted more than 20 doors in several cities. The building you see here is the company’s HQ, which he had build just after the war. As a small boy, he took me on his lap and gave me different pieces of leather, making me identify it’s origin and properties. In the end I didn’t got into the leather trade, but If I see my hands touch and caress precious fabrics, they remind me of his great hands. I still miss him, and I do need to open a few more doors still to walk in his footsteps……..
For some days now, I having trouble sleeping. It sounds absolutely ridiculous but soon my travels will commence and the buying for the Summer of 2014 will start. First stop will be Milano, and I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO IT!. It’s no secret that these are troubled times for the fashion industry as a whole. Quite logical, even if unjust, people tend to cut back on spending money on clothes in uncertain times. But as always times of turmoil and destruction also make room for new flowers to blossom. And this is exactly what I will be looking for, new, small companies that make amazing products. Not companies that are run by sales targets and accountants, but designers and craftsmen that make a product with skill, knowledge and love. Exactly like we run our business…….
